Displaying 2D1B4584-A0AC-4FFD-ADDA-DE77AB5F243D.JPG
To see last week's recap click here.

This week's episodes of TGIT were great!  There was a some adult things happening this week as well as the normal dose of drama, plus the extra person getting thrown under the bus!  Yeah, it was a great week!  Here's your weekly recap...

Baby issues?
Grey's Anatomy
Displaying IMG_2066.JPG
I Choose You
This episode mainly focused on Alex and a case with two newborn twins that are dying from tumors.  The Challenge: He can only choose one to get a liver transplant from the father, who was a match.  Amongst this is new drama with Jo, who found an old record or receipt or something that involved the embryos he froze with Izzie.  This led to a whole conversation about their future and they ended up working it out.
Other important things:

  • Maggie was invited to her ex boyfriend's wedding, which was not cool, but then she makes out with the new guy, Andrew so it all ends up okay!  ;)
  • Meredith is being told she's not getting paid enough for her new job, so she finally just goes to Bailey and asks for a raise, so she is proud of her
  • Jackson kept trying to get April out of his apartment, but since she wouldn't leave, he left (to Bailey's house)

"Watch me choose you!"
Scandal

Paris Is Burning
The moment we've waited FIVE SEASONS for finally happened: Olitz has gone public!  This leads to massive negotiations in the White House between Ftiz and Mellie because they need to do an interview together, proving that they're stronger than ever.  Abby and Cyrus are the messengers for both sides respectively. Long story short, they come to an agreement but Mellie drops out at the last minute.  The White House has to go to its last resort by throwing Olivia on the bus!
Other important things:

  • Cyrus makes a big speech to Ftiz about how he should get his job back and they can finish out what they started.  Fitz's response: "you don't work here anymore"
  • This is what influences Cyrus to play Mellie and convincing her to drop out of the interview
  • Olivia sees Mellie in her gigantic closet and she has a beautiful monologue about giving up everything to be First Lady and how her hooch is the only thing that makes her feel alive instead of numb.
  • Back at OPA, Jake, Quinn, and Huck have a drinking party because they assume it's the end for them
  • At the end of the episode, Quinn points out that the Louvre is on fire, but the biggest story is still the Olitz scandal
  • This prompts Jake to go talk to Papa Pope in prison and he ends the episode with one of his sophisticated coded references to old literature or something, so we're confused now because now we don't know who's behind all of this!

As if it wasn't already too much...
How to Get Away with Murder
Displaying IMG_2068.JPG
It's Called the Octopus
This episode focuses a lot on adult things, but in the overall story, it really was about Nate.  He ends up getting his job back as a police officer, but the really interesting thing is that he's now involved with the night that happens seven weeks from now.  He calls Annalise, but she never answers. At the end of the episode we see him getting the (now escaped) Keating 4 in his police car.
Other important things:

  • The maid for the Hapstalls leaks photos of them that makes it appear as if they are incestuous, which we've come to find out is true!
  • Wes discovers the guy that Michaela is currently seeing (Levi) is EGGS 911!  What's even more shocking is that it's Rebecca's brother!
    • Where did the "Eggs" in "EGGS 911"come from? It was Rebecca's nickname after she dropped a carton of eggs
  • Asher is being blackmailed by Emily Sinclair into getting information from Annalise on the Hapstall case
    • The Dirt: There's something to do with a girl named Tiffany at a place called Trotter Lake
  • Connor is all ready to do adult things with Oliver so they're happy again, but the biggest accomplishment for Connor was that he never did adult things with anyone before then!

Guest Post with Author Laura M. Kolar
Life With an 8 Year Old
Hello readers! I thought I’d step away from the normal guest blog post about writing or how I got published and tell you a story about my very precocious daughter. She’s much funnier than I am and makes me laugh every day. She’s constantly making up stories or songs and when she speaks, I have to remind myself she’s only eight.

We have about a twenty-minute drive to school each day and one of her favorite things is to play car games like I Spy, Hangman, Alphabet, etc. One day, we were playing Guess the Animal. The rules are pretty simple, you get four to five yes or no questions like does it have fur, does it have a tail, does it live in the ocean, and then four to five  guesses (or more depending on how long she wants to play) as to what the animal is. Now, my daughter likes you to be very specific, for example, if you say bear, she wants to know what kind of bear.

On this particular morning, I have it down to a goat, but she wants me to figure out what kind of goat. Does anyone out there really know all the different kinds of goats? I don’t, but I tried to guess anyway, pigmy goat, mountain goat, and so on until we finally get to school and my time is up. She grabs her backpack and opens the car door, but I still don’t know what kind of goat she wanted me to guess. So I ask her, “Sweetheart, aren’t you going to tell me what kind of goat it was?”

“Oh, a three-legged one. It’s a thing. I saw it.” Then she hops out of the car and runs off to meet her friends.

A three legged goat! How is that a thing?

Yes, I admit there have been times I’ve let her cheat to win a board game or purposely run slow in a race to the swings, but this was different. Though, as I sat there trying to think of the best way to explain to her later about playing by the rules, I decided it just wasn’t worth it. The game wasn’t really about following rules, it was about giving her my attention and not turning on the radio or talking on the phone to someone else, which is what she’ll remember, that I spent time with her, whether or not the three-legged goat exists.

Besides, it’s better than the time she expected my mom to guess the title of a song she’d just made up, or the time I lost hangman because she decided to spell a word her own way. One thing is for sure, she has no lack of imagination (just like her mother).

About the Author

Laura M. Kolar lives with her husband and daughter in a one-stop-light town in northern-lower Michigan. If not at her day-job or with her family, you will find her sipping a cup of chai latte while sitting in her favorite rocking chair, hunched over her laptop writing or spending entirely too much time on Twitter.

Teaser Tuesday ~ Fallen Crest High by Tijan

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
Fallen Crest High (Fallen Crest High, #1)

Fallen Crest High(Fallen Crest High #1)by Tijan

Mason and Logan Kade are two brothers who did their own thing. They were rich and expected to attend her school, Fallen Crest Academy. They chose public school and now Samantha has to live with them. The problem is that she doesn't care at all: about them, about her friends, about her cheating boyfriend, or even about her parent's divorce. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe change is a good thing.

My Teaser
As I went through the kitchen, a big black bag was in the foyer along with a hiking bag. Mason dumped a rolled up sleeping pad beside it a second later. He had changed into ratty green khaki shorts and a sleeveless black shirt. It was tattered along the edges and had two gaping holes in the back.

"Where are you going?"

Excerpt from Rarity
Things always looked different the next day. Skies seemed bluer, the grass was greener. The worries of yesterday were magically reduced to a manageable size, and brand new ideas and thoughts were born. Oddly enough, Mom’s words were like seeds planted in the night, now growing and blossoming inside me. Jay was very much alive. He was healthy, a bit fragile, but more alive than many kids my age who lived life mindlessly. If anything, this stupid disorder made him more alive. Made me more alive. I wanted to make memories with Jay— live each day to the fullest, laugh until my belly hurt, cry at sad movies with him, and watch the sunrise and the sunset whenever I could. Life was a gift, not to be taken for granted. It could be here one day and gone the next, or it could go on for a very long time.

Coconut's Corner ~ James and the Giant Peach

James and the Giant Peach

A little magic can take you a long way...

Roald Dahl was a champion of the underdog and all things little—in this case, an orphaned boy oppressed by two nasty, self-centered aunts. How James escapes his miserable life with the horrible aunts and becomes a hero is a Dahlicious fantasy of the highest order. You will never forget resourceful little James and his new family of magically overgrown insects—a ladybug, a spider, a grasshopper, a glowworm, a silkworm, and the chronic complainer, a centipede with a hundred gorgeous shoes. Their adventures aboard a luscious peach as large as a house take them across the Atlantic Ocean, through waters infested with peach-eating sharks and skies inhabited by malevolent Cloudmen, to a ticker-tape parade in New York City.

This happily ever after contemporary fairy tale is a twentieth-century classic that every child deserves to know. And Lane Smith's endearingly funny illustrations are a perfect match for the text.
James and the Giant Peach is about a boy named James Henry Trotter that loses his parents and he has to go up and live with his horrible aunts! One day his aunts told him to chop wood. There was this guy that appeared and he had a bag full of stuff that was magic and he handed the bag to James. So James took it home and the man said before James started to walk back “If they escape, then they will be working their magic upon somebody else instead of upon you!” As James was walking home he dropped the bag and everything flew out and they went near the tree and then they were gone so quick he couldn’t get them back. A few hours later there was a peach growing nonstop right in front of James and his aunts’ eyes. This is what started James on his journey.

The main characters where James, The Old Green Grasshopper, Miss Ladybug, The Bright Glow Bug, The Spider, The Not Positive Earthworm, and The Centipede. The main characters did take chances on their adventure. They had to use a lot of Miss Spider’s silk and tie up the birds which was a big chance because if she used too much she could run out for a while.

I could really relate to James when his parents died and he was sad. I had my Grandmother die and I was sad so I felt the same way. I don’t know anybody like any of the other characters. If I was in James’ situation I would probably get help.

I really liked this book. My favorite part was when James solved the problem that they were in the water sinking and he got the peach to go up in the air.

I would recommend this book to my friends because I think they would like it. It was really great for my age group but anyone might read it and enjoy it.

#TGIT Recap Season 2 ~ Week 2

Displaying 2D1B4584-A0AC-4FFD-ADDA-DE77AB5F243D.JPG
To see last week's recap click here.

TGIT was amazing this week!  So many big things happened: New Chief of Surgeries, Affairs going public, and attempted murders grow into something more!  Here's your recap of last week's amazing episodes!

Chief Miranda Bailey: Day 1
Grey's Anatomy
Displaying IMG_2066.JPG
Walking Tall
It's official!  Dr. Miranda Bailey is Chief of Surgery at the hospital!  In an effort to make it the most perfect first day ever, she fails miserably.  By the end of the day, she has a heart-to-heart with Richard, who gives her advice on making the next day better.  The Nazi cannot rule the hospital and make it successful.
Other Important Things:

  • April has a rash on her back, so she's contained in the bubble for the duration of the episode
    • She talks to Jackson and says she's willing to fight for their marriage
  • Amelia tries to figure out her relationship status with Owen and goes to talk to April
  • Richard has a hard time with Bailey not coming to him looking for advice, so he goes to talk to April
  • Callie is flaunting her new relationship, which bothers Arizona, who talks to April about it
  • Bailey dumps all of her old responsibilities on Meredith, who has Edwards help her do it all
    • Bailey tells her it's because she's promoting her to Chief of General Surgery!
  • In their heart-to-heart, Richard gives Bailey the stethoscope he received on his first day of residency

"Olivia Pope! Are you the President's mistress?"...
Scandal
Displaying IMG_2067.JPG
Yes
There really isn't much that actually happened in this episode because it mainly focused around fixing the allegations of the Olitz affair and Olivia hiding from the press.  In the end, after everything was settled, she told the same group of reporters crowding her apartment from the season two finale (that moment still gives me goosebumps when I watch it!) that she was indeed the President's mistress!
Other Important Things:

  • It was Liz who leaked the photos to Sally Langston!
    • Abby uses that to blackmail her way into an equal partnership between the two
  • Abby goes to Cyrus looking for advice to fix the situation at the White House
    • As a result, she's got power and Mellie is back in the picture
  •   Quinn doesn't believe that Jake has fixed Huck, who is trying his best to work out his problems
  • Before Olivia got out of the car at the end of the episode, she listened to a voice message from Fitz, telling her he and Mellie were going to deny the affair

The story progresses...
How to Get Away with Murder
Displaying IMG_2068.JPG
She's Dying
We start the episode where we ended last week: Wes running from the mansion where Annalise was shot.  The narrative changed a little bit though because he runs to Michaela and Laurel.  Where's Connor? He's with Annalise... applying pressure to her wounds!
Other Important Things:

  • After a questionable preliminary hearing, Nate is free from his charges
  • The rich Hapstall siblings lied about the brother's whereabouts on the night of their aunt's murder and Annalise ripped them for it
  • Annalise's lesbian lover chick left after a night of doing adult things
    • Nate sees them kissing on Annalise's front porch (from his car because he be creepin'!)
  • Oliver got HIV after Connor cheated on him (he wanted to get him back)
    • Connor feels guilty about it because he's the one who put him in that position
  • At the courthouse, Michaela and Connor run into a guy that Connor tells her to go for, which she does later on in the episode
    • It's pretty safe to assume he is Eggs 911
  • The annoying lawyer chick on the accusing side of Nate's case is taking on the opposing side of the Hapstall case
    • At the end of the episode, we find out that, two months later, she's dead on the ground in front of the mansion

A Shattered Heart by Tiffany King ~ Review

A Shattered Heart (Fractured Lives, #2)

From Tiffany King, USA Today Bestselling Author of A Shattered Moment, comes book 2 in the Fractured Lives Series.

A Shattered Heart is the story of Kathleen "Kat" Darby who discovers that although you can run away, you can never escape the ghosts from your past.

Physically, Kat Darby walked away relatively unscathed from the tragic car accident on the night of her high school graduation. Emotionally, her scars run much deeper from the loss of two of her best friends and her longtime boyfriend, Dan. Unable to face the constant reminders of the person she thought she would love forever, Kat leaves for twelve months to study art in France before returning home to start her life again.

Life in Florida proves more difficult than Kat anticipated with remnants of the accident still lingering. The only solace she can find is in her love for art until she runs into Brian, the younger brother of her deceased former boyfriend. Finding they can lean on each other, Kat and Brian find comfort in their emotional common bond. When an unexpected romance develops, Kat must decide if she is willing to face the ghosts from her past in order to love again.

A Shattered Heart was a very emotional journey for me.  I read it back to back with the first book, A Shattered Moment, and I absolutely loved every page of both books. Tiffany King, being one of my favorite authors, has a way of letting you feel what the characters are feeling as you read. You hurt when they hurt, you love when they love, and these characteristics are easily found in A Shattered Moment.

I really loved Kat mostly because she was a tough girl on the outside, but soft on the inside. I am a lot this way.  I like to hide my emotions on the outside even if I'm being torn to shreds on the inside. This is what made Kat easy to relate to for me. She was going through a really tough time emotionally and after all but running away for a year after the accident where she lost two of her best friends, she has such a struggle getting back to "real life" and finding herself again.

I loved watching Kat and Brian's relationship change throughout the book. They share so much emotionally in the loss of Dan, but as with everyone, you deal with loss differently but they are able to help each other and learn to care about and love someone else again.

As this book is in a series, but you can still read each bokk as a stand alone, you get to know the other characters so much better throughout the book.  I would recommend reading A Shattered Moment before just for the fact that there is so much to see in the progress of all of the friends effected by the accident and how close their relationship really was throughout the entire story.

Needless to say I would recommend A Shattered Heart to anyone high school age and up.  I found it to be a wonderful journey for both Kat and Brian and look forward to the next book in this series.

Boarderline Love by Deanna Dee: Nearly drowning wasn’t part of Dalya’s vacation plans. Neither was being rescued by a guy with a perfect six pack and a haunted look in his eyes. Mason reminds Dalya too much of her over-protective older brother, but when he offers to teach her to surf, she can’t say no. Can Dalya get past her frustration with her brother to realize how much Mason means to her?

An Ocean of Their Own by Bridie Hall: Lola spends her days trawling the sand dunes in search of the perfect subject for her art. She finds it in a solitary, beautiful girl. Sarah doesn’t just fill the pages in her sketchbook, she enchants Lola’s heart too. But how can Lola tell her family about Sarah?

About the Author
By age 5, Sasha Hibbs' favorite movie was Gone With the Wind. By age 12, she completed her 7th grade book report on the sequel, Scarlett. By 18, she met and married her very own Mr. Rhett Butler and as it turns out, she never had to worry about going back to Tara to win the love of her life back. Fortunately, he stuck with her.

With a love of all things paranormal, the ambiance of the South with its gigantic antebellum mansions and canopies of Spanish moss, and a love for her husband’s rich storytelling of blacksmiths and the mythology surrounding their origins, it wasn’t long until the world of her debut novel, Black Amaranth, was born.

Sasha lives in mountainous West Virginia with her husband, Tim, and their two daughters, Aeliza and Ava. She is currently hard at work on her next novel in The Vulcan Legacies series.
