Miscellaneous Monday #5 ~ Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This week on Miscellaneous Monday, Banana and Toucan are talking about their latest find on Netflix...

What got you to watch this show?
Ellie Kemper.  I loved seeing her on Ellen and I don't think anyone could've been a better replacement for Ellen when she was sick that one day!  I've really wanted to see something that's she was in and thus showed up so I HAD to watch it!

Walter Bankston, the guy from the news report at the beginning.

Who would you recommend it to?
Anyone who is in desperate need for a laugh.

Who was your favorite character(s) and why?
Jacqueline (Mrs. Voorhees) was probably my favorite character from the start.  I love how her character is all rich and high maintenance, but she ends up becoming much more by the end.
Titus Andromedon was someone I didn't originally like, mainly because I could stand the way he talks, but I quickly got over that because he definitely is the comic relief of the show.  I also felt the same with Lillian--she kind of grows on you.

Titus Andromedon- he is hilarious.

Who was your least favorite character and why?
My least favorite character by far was Randy.  I don't think we were supposed to really like his character though.  As a human, I feel sorry for him because he's such an oblivious loser.  I think they probably needed him more for the characterization of Kimmy's mom more than anything.  There is something he does that makes him useful, but then he kind of screws that up too, so take that as you will.

Randy, Kimmy's stepfather, because he's an idiot.  'Nough said!

Did you have a favorite episode or moment from the show? (No spoilers!)
I loved finding out about the mysterious crank!  I was definitely very mad about it, but I couldn't stop laughing for some reason.

When Titus and Lillian shot his music video, and the actual video itself.  I also liked seeing his Lion King audition.

What would you rate this on Netflix?
4 stars for now, I take my Netflix ratings pretty seriously so it's really hard to get 5.  I will say that it's got the potential to become 5 star show.

4 stars because I don't think it's 5 star worthy (yet).

What are some of your favorite lines from the show?
"It's a miracle!" -Walter Bankston
"I wish that I was YOUR yellow hat!" -Kimmy Schmidt
"What's your plan? You have maybe four years of that youthful glow left.  After that you'll be stuck marrying a primary care physicians or one of those off-brand Kennedys" -Jacqueline Voorhees
(There's much more than this, these are just the ones I can quickly remember.)

"FEmales are STRONG as HELL!" -Walter Bankston

"Penoooooooooo Noooir" - Titus Andromedon

Are you ready for season two?
I seriously CANNOT wait for the next season of this show!  I'm excited to see where the story goes after everything that's happened in the last few episodes.

Yes, pretty bad.

What were your overall thoughts and feels about this show?
This show is definitely one of the best comedies I've seen in awhile.  Although it is a comedy, it's got this serious undertone to it that really makes the show what it is.  The story always seemed to be moving along, so there's definitely not many boring parts to the show.  If I didn't have Netflix, I would get a Netflix to watch this show!

I really liked this show, depending on which half of the season you're talking about. I wasn't that big of a fan of the first half because it was mainly set up for the next half.  Overall, it was good and I can't wait for more!

Miscellaneous Monday #4 ~ Blogger Interview ~ Amber from Paradise of Pages

Welcome to Miscellaneous Monday, the meme where anything goes!

This week I am interviewing a blogger friend of mine so you all can get to know her a little better and hopefully check out her awesome blog as well.  I did 5 questions for her to "think about" and then we did a rapid fire session.  So, without further ado...

Meet Amber from Paradise of Pages!

1 – What made you start blogging and how long have you been blogging?

I had my cousin talk me into reading Twilight years ago. I avoided it for months until she finally sucked me in. Once I did I loved the series and started looking up the books online for anything else I could get out of it. I came across some book blogs. I had no idea anything existed. I then wanted my own and started a blog called Must and Lust for books. I hated the name but couldn't think of anything else to change it to at the time. I started this blog back in 2008. I blogged on it for about a year before life made me not able to do it anymore. Once I got everything sorted out I wanted to be able to start up a new one. I have been blogging Paradise of Pages for about 2 years now.

2 – What is your favorite book genre or do you have a favorite?

I tend to really like contemporary romance, but I find myself branching out to really enjoy paranormal romance. As long as there is love in it somewhere, I am usually okay to read it :)

3 - Why did you name your blog Paradise of Pages?

I wanted something that resembled my home which is pretty white beaches everywhere. And then Bam! Paradise of Pages was born.

4 – What is some blogger advice you might give someone starting out?

Don't give up. It is so easy to see it takes a while to gain followers and even harder to keep them, but if you are passionate about it, keep going! They will see you care and they will come!

5 – What is your favorite thing about blogging?

The people. I love feeling like we are our own little family. I also like not feeling so nerdy since we all love to read. No one reads here where I live!

Rapid fire....and go!

Turtle Bay by Tiffany King ~ Review Tour and Giveaway

If you're a teenager in a small, rural area, how do you exist when your eccentric, free-spirited parents are the town freaks everyone laughs at?

For sixteen-year-old Rainbow Honeywell—or Rain, as she insists on being called—the answer was to become the queen of all pranks. She never wanted to be a troublemaker, but the label quickly stuck when everyone in Huntsville, Kansas, became a target. All she wanted was to deflect the negative attention off her parents, but Rain's plan backfired to the max, landing her in a heap of trouble with the local authorities and expelled from high school.

An unexpected inheritance offers Rain an opportunity for a new beginning when she and her family move across the country to the quaint beach community of Turtle Bay, Florida.

Determined to make the best of her second chance, Rain vows to walk the straight and narrow, hoping her parents will fly under the radar while she soaks up some fun in the sun, sandy beaches, and hot, tanned guys. Unfortunately, she picks the wrong new friends, and a late night party lands her back in the kind of trouble she had been hoping to avoid. As the newbie in town with a record, Rain takes the brunt of the punishment when an unforgiving judge chooses to make an example out of her and slaps her with enough community service hours to keep her busy until she is old and gray.

Facing the harsh reality of paying for the actions of others while atoning for her own past sins, Rain is paired up with Josh Shaw, a judgmental local lifeguard whose love for the beach and the environment is eclipsed only by his distaste for those who trash it. As far as Josh is concerned, Rain is guilty and got what she deserved, regardless of her side of the story. To make matters worse, a tropical storm sits in the Atlantic, threatening to wreak havoc on the small beach community.

Things slowly change as Rain begins to appreciate her surroundings through Josh's eyes, proving she is not the person he thinks she is. Their feelings for one another blossom as the tropical storm grows into a hurricane and bears down on Turtle Bay. With impending danger looming, the small beach community must come together in order to ride out the storm.

At First Sight
The cover of this book made me totally flip out honestly.  If it isn't blatantly obvious from this blog, I love anything to do with the beach and beach books are no exception.  I love this cover and have been dying to read the book since the minute I saw it.

Characters and relationships
I felt like this book was driven by the different relationships in it.  I loved Rain and Josh both and it was fun to watch their relationship go from where it started, which wasn't good, to, well, where it went (no spoilers here) it was wonderful.  I really loved the other cast of characters that were in the book as well.  Rain's parents were eccentric to say the least, but also they were very loving toward her and respectful of her as well.  I LOVED Farrah, who ended up being a great friend to Rain, and wouldn't mind visiting Turtle Bay again and having a book for Farrah to maybe find love herself.  I loved the way the relationships in this book were all centered around their different parental situations which was a lot of what drove their actions which is so true to life that I really enjoyed it.

Is this a kissing book?
Yep!  Hello...Tiffany King knows how to write a decent kiss and I love how she can keep things just right for a YA audience at the same time.  I'll just say that Josh was pretty swoony!

Don't leave me hanging
This is definitely a stand alone book but there is much room for companion novels for other characters which I would love.  I would love to see a prequel type book for Larry even.  These characters are just so lovable!

The Sum Up
From the moment I saw this book I knew it was going to be a must read for me.  Tiffany King certainly has my number when it comes to writing and I can't express how much I adored Turtle Bay. From start to finish it kept me wanting to read (and ignore my chores) and can't imagine a teenage girl out there that wouldn't enjoy this fantastic beach book on their summer vacation this year!

Hidden behind the walls of Unit, Vermont is what many believe to be a religious cult. However, inside these walls lie the secrets to why Unit may be one of the most beautiful towns around. Residing inside the gates are the descendants of Mother Nature, who help keep the balance of Earth.

Among these descendants, Xaviera Anderson reigns as the Princess to Unit. Her life was much the same, until today, her eighteenth birthday. Today is different because she's to be Matched with one of the Unit males who her parents have chosen for her. Once Matched, Xaviera has to go through a decision period. She must decide if she wants this life or leave Unit powerless to be a normal human.

It is not until she's tested by the ones she trusts that Xaviera questions her faith in people and that of Mother Nature.

Interview with the awesome Mary Smith
1 – This is your first time writing Paranormal.  What made you decide to switch genres?

I did it on a whim. The idea of the story came to me and I just kept writing it.

2 – Was it harder for you to write Paranormal after doing so many books in Sports Romance?

In some way it was harder, but at the same time it was easier because I could create whatever I wanted. I held all the power! (haha!)

3 – Who is your favorite character in A Royal’s Love and why?

Oh man! This is a tough one! I'll say Xaviera because she is the main character. She is tough, but doesn't know realize it until she everything fell into her lap. She is also kind, sweet, and would do anything for friends.

4 – How many books do you have planned for the Unit Matched series?

There are three. Book 1 is Xaviera. Book 2 is Amaya. Book 3 is Gia. Each story picks up where the last ends.

5 – What projects can we expect coming up next from you?

For my solos, I have the three Unit books, an New Adult College Football book, and a contemporary romance book (it's about an arranged marriage) all coming out in 2015. My co-author projects (with the amazing Lindsay Paige) we have the next three Oh Captain, My Captain series coming in the next few months AND we are working on a top secret project which we will be announcing later on this year.

Thanks to Mary for answering all my questions and stopping by The Sarcastic Palmtree today!
