Top Ten Tuesday ~ Movies and TV Shows That Would Make Great Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by

This weeks topic: Since this was a free week, Banana gets credit for coming up with our topic which is:

Movies and TV Shows That Would Make Great Books

10 ~ Knight and Day

This movie is a family favorite around here.  It is hilarious and we would definitely read a book about it.

9 ~ Hart of Dixie

This show was one we enjoyed every episode of.  It would certainly make for some fun contemporary southern romance books.

8 ~ The Emperor's New Groove

If you haven't seen this movie then shame, shame, shame on you!  It is one of our favorite Disney movies of all time and provides so many quotable one liners it's ridiculous!  It would make for a hilarious adventure story in book form.

7 ~ Private Practice

What makes for a great book?  How about a lot of messed up relationships intermingled with medical cases?  We think Private Practice has potential for a great book series.

6 ~ Heroes

Heroes would be an excellent basis for a graphic novel series!  Who's with us on this one?

5 ~ Grey's Anatomy

Want to talk about an awesome medical drama series filled with relationship angst, lies and all those other goodies?  We think Grey's Anatomy has great potential as a book series.  You'll be crying a lot though because your favorite characters will be dying every other book!

4 ~ Gilmore Girls

Whit, sarcasm, relationships, quirky small town adventures.  What's not to love about Gilmore Girls and who wouldn't want to read this series as a book?

3 ~ How to Get Away With Murder

If this show doesn't translate into a great book series we don't know what would!  They had us going until the very end with season 1 and now season 2 is going to be just as epic as we try and find out who committed the latest murder on this fantastic series.

2 ~ 24

24 has all the right combination for everything you would want in a great thriller series.  Don't tell me you wouldn't love to read about Jack Bauer uncovering intense terrorist crimes using all his non-conventional methods.  24 the book series...hopefully coming to a bookstore near you!

1 ~ Scandal

This show has it all: drama, suspense, romance, and everything else.  It would be very interesting to get into the heads of all these amazing characters and read their thoughts on what's happening.  The constant twists throughout the book alone would definitely keep you reading until way past 3am!

Now it's your turn!  Tell us what shows you think would make great books.  Also what topics did you decide on for your free week?  Leave us your comments so we can check out your posts as well!

Two Year Blogoversary Celebration and Giveaway

The Sarcastic Palmtree is turning 2!  We are entering our toddler years now and after reading our first post all over again, (it was terrible) we are even more grateful for our followers.  You have all stuck with us through 2 years of fun and we hope to have many more to come.

Since our first review was for Despicable Me 2, we thought it would be great to review the new installment, Minions, that we just saw today.

Sit back, relax, and make sure you enter the giveaway at the bottom of our post as fun prizes await!

Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working for a continual series of unsuccessful masters, from T. Rex to Napoleon. Without a master to grovel for, the Minions fall into a deep depression. But one minion, Kevin, has a plan; accompanied by his pals Stuart and Bob, Kevin sets forth to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. Their search leads them to Scarlet Overkill, the world's first-ever super-villainess.

Characters
Obviously...Minions!  Specifically, however, Bob, Kevin, and Stuart.  These guys each have a separate personality that really shines throughout the movie, and it helps them achieve their ultimate goal of finding a new boss. Kevin, with his drive and ambition, lead the laid back Stuart and enthusiastic, captivating Bob on their adventure. Along the way, they run into a family of villains--that are entertaining, to say the least--who drive them to Villain-Con 1968.  Here is where we meet Scarlet Overkill. Voiced to perfection by Sandra Bullock, Scarlet is looking for new henchmen to help her achieve her evil agenda. All the characters we meet throughout the film have unique individuality that you can't help but enjoy.

The Best Gems

  • Losing The Bosses
  • Depressed Minions
  • The Dating Game
  • Leg Stretching
  • King Bob
  • Torture
  • Snow Globe
  • Freeze Ray

The Sum Up
In the movie we get a closer look at the history of the minions, where they came from and ultimately where they end up. With one mishap after another, Kevin, Stuart and Bob work their way into your heart and your funny bone in this delightful film for all ages. Illumination has a way of paying attention to detail that make all the difference in an animated film. Minions doesn't fall short in quality or style. If you are a fan of Minion antics, this movie is for you.

We are giving away to our wonderful readers a $10 iTunes gift card and a $10 Amazon gift card.

Top Ten Tuesday ~ Different types of stories ~ Movies and TV shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by

This weeks topic:

Different types of stories ~ Movies and TV shows!
Since we do Movies and TV on the side here at The Sarcastic Palmtree, we decided we would do 5 of each and keep it as non-bookish as possible!

Top 5 TV Shows

5 ~ Castle

The writing on this show is so great!  Each episode has it's own story as well has a continuing story line that runs throughout the entire series.  We also love the bit of bookish element that comes from Castle being an author.  It's always fun when he brings his card playing author buddies in for an episode here and there as well.

4 ~ Grey's Anatomy
Grey's is a show I have watched since the first episode aired.  I love this show and although it isn't quite as good as it was in the beginning (they never are) I plan to stick with it to the last episode.

3 ~ Seinfeld
The show about nothing.  I think more lines and situations are repeated from this show in our house than any other.  Seinfeld just always found a way to work real life garbage that we can all relate to into each episode.  I love it and still watch the reruns from time to time and enjoy every one of them! (As a side note:  as soon as I'm done with this post....I'm going to Sky Burger!)

2 ~ Friends
No show is watched more in our house than Friends.  Since Beighley discovered it a few summers ago, we watch it pretty much every day.  It is his favorite show ever, hands down, no questions asked.

1 ~ 24
Arguably the best show ever in my opinion.  Again, this is a show we watched from the first season and never missed an episode.  Monday was our favorite night of the week and watching 24 was the fastest hour we spent each week.  Last night Day 9 ended.  All of the members of The Sarcastic Palmtree hope they get picked up for another season, even if it is another short season like the one we just finished.

Top 5 Movies

5 ~ Avatar
The story in of this movie is just beautiful.  I love the cross over between worlds and the visual brilliance that is created is beyond words.

4 ~ Star Trek

I remember as a kid watching Star Trek because there was honestly nothing else on on a Saturday afternoon.  I was never a fan at all but this reboot really does it for me.  I felt the casting was flawless and the writing for both movies was amazing.

3 ~ The Italian Job
The Italian Job is the #1 movie the whole family will agree to watch pretty much any time.  It's the default family favorite and if you haven't seen it, you are REALLY missing out!  This is one action packed movie filled with it's own brand of snark and one liners.

2 ~ Toy Story
Who can deny that Toy Story isn't one of the best written stores of the past 10 years.  I loved all of these movies and if I even walk in on the last 10 minute of Toy Story 3 I cry like a baby.  I still have my favorite childhood toy "Skunky" up in the attic.

1 ~ Star Wars
Star Wars is my favorite movie of all time.  I could watch these movies endlessly and quote the original trilogy pretty much word for word (I didn't read as a child remember?)  For me this is one of the most epic stories ever told and like the total nerd I am, can't wait for episode VII.

ENCORE
Since it was the first review we did at The Sarcastic Palmtree and we are coming up on our 1 year anniversary next week we thought Despicable Me was worthy of an encore spot on our list this week.

Top Ten Tuesday ~ Books you may like if you also like......

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by

This weeks topic: Books you may like if you also like a certain TV show/Movie/Comic/Play/Music
(basically any form of entertainment)

In no particular order:

10 - The X-Men Movie Franchise
The characters in One and Two remind of the same vibe X-Men gives you.  If you like action and people with different strengths and abilities you will probably love them both like I did.

9- The Vampire Diaries

If you are are a fan of The Vampire Diaries I would strongly recommend The Lux series.  They are NOT vampire books, but again, the characters and personalities brought in the writing just remind me of something we could see on this show.

8 - Hart of Dixie

If you enjoy the southern roots of this show, you may also enjoy this fantastic bit of spicy southern love in 7 Day Fiance.

7 - Castle
If you enjoy solving mysteries with Castle, Beckett, and the rest of their friends, you may enjoy the antics brought on by the Women's Murder Club.  I entered this series when book 6 was out and #13 is out in May.  I am always excited to read each one as the come out.

6 - Taylor Swift

While reading Open Road Summer I thought a lot about Taylor Swift.  It's not a condition, and I'm not saying the girl in the book is based on Taylor at all, it was just something "I" thought about while reading.  I loved Open Road Summer.  (Review to come soon)

5- Rock and Roll Baby!

Okay, If I'm talking rock bands in general, you are going to get a picture of my favorite all time band.  If you are a fan of rock and roll bands and love them in your books, you are going to want to hit up Mutilate My Heart.  It is nothing short of awesome!

4 - Boy Bands

One Direction gets the pic on this one because they are current, but if you are or have ever been a fan of a boy band, the book American Girl on Saturn is for you!
(This cover has been recently updated so I decided to do a little side by side because I like both.)

American Girl on Saturn (Saturn, #1)American Girl on Saturn (Saturn, #1)

3 - Daughtry

Okay, Explaination time!
1st ~ I LOVE the band Daughtry!
2nd ~ I LOVED the book Crash Into You.
3rd ~ I don't generally get songs popping into my head while I'm reading a book, like EVER.
So the fact that I had several Daughtry songs come to me while reading Crash Into You, is beyond the norm.  The 2 songs most notably  "Crashed" and "Waiting For Superman". Both of these will forever remind me of this book and if you love both of these elements, either the band or the book, either may be for you!

2 - Baseball

Take me out to the ball game and all that...I love sports in general, and although I sort of look at baseball as the national snoozetime, I still like books that have to do with pretty much any type of sport element.  If you are a baseball fan, or even if you are a little like me when it comes to the sport, you may really enjoy the book "The Practice Proposal".
The Practice Proposal (Suddenly Smitten, #1)

1 - HOCKEY

Now THIS is a sport!
It's not much of a secret that I am a HUGE hockey fan, and I love not only the sport, the Minnesota Wild, and this awesome shot that you see above (it happened a week ago and was a game winner for the Wild) I love books that have an element of hockey in them.  I LOVE Toni Aleo's Assassins Series of Hockey Romance Novels and if you are a fan of either, these books are for you!  Now if you are thinking "Hockey Players aren't hot enough to be in a romance novel I would like to direct you to my friend Wendy Bennet's blog and her feature "Hot Hockey God Friday".  You will not be disappointed I assure you and you may think twice before thinking that hockey players are crooked nosed thugs that don't have any teeth!

Well, that's my top ten this week!  This is one of my favorite lists I think I have ever put together (and I almost skipped this week!) Leave me your links so I can see what you are doing this week on your top ten!
