This weeks topic:
Books People Have Been Telling Me I MUST Read
This week we each decided to do a list of 5 since we both get reading recommendations all the time.
Kristalyn's Picks
Here it is! The one book you will never see me review because I never, EVER intend to read it. I swear if I hear one more person tell me I HAVE to read this book because it is SO good I'm going to get sick. My two main reasons: I don't do cancer books and I don't willingly go into books that make me wish I had bought stock in Kleenex.
This is one I have been back and forth with a lot on whether or not I'm going to read it. My friend Amber at Paradise of Pages recently just did a reread on this series and I think she has finally convinced me it's time I give it a shot.
This is the other series that dear Amber insists I read. It is high up there on my radar and I have been told by MANY people that this is one I need to read. Okay....I'll do it! Soon I hope.
Beighley's Picks
People have always told me that I should read this book, and it's been on my TBR list since it practically came out, but I just never got to it. When the movie came out and it got all hyped up I took it off because I couldn't stand hearing about it anymore. I also was done hearing all of its comparisons to The Hunger Games because Hunger Games will ALWAYS be better! I finally got to watch the movie and I ended up liking it, but I'm glad I never wasted my time reading the book, especially since they have a horribly sad ending.
Since the day she's started them, my mom has always wanted me to read these books... then I asked her a question. "Can you buy them on Kindle?", I said. "No... they are not available for the Kindle, BUT you can buy them on a Nook", she said. I cringed at the answer, and from that day forth, I chose to not read these books until they were available for Kindle. I liked the prequel book "Tiger's Promise" a lot though, so I'm DYING to read them! I have decided to hold out until these books are available on Kindle.
This is actually a book I wanna read someday as well. I've always heard about how amazing TFiOS is and it took all my willpower not to puke every time. With all the popularity of the TFiOS movie, I got to hear about how much better this book is (not that it's a hard thing to do). Even though TFiOS just isn't my kinda book, I hope this one will be!
First off, I'd like to give a shout out to Amber from Paradise of Pages for calling me out on being a cheater! Since I wasn't sure I'd end up liking these books or not, I read the first two graphic novel versions from the library. The good news is that I ended up liking them so I can't to read them for real this time!
This is another book @lynniespalmtree keeps nagging me to read. I don't really remember what it's about, but I remember it sounded interesting. I'll definitely be crossing this off my TBR list soon!

In all honesty, this book holds no interest for me. I have heard it all, "The story line is excellent" "It isn't all about sex" I just really don't want to read it or I think I would have by now.
I have honestly been putting this series to the side for a LONG time, but I intend to get to it very soon! I actually got a call from my sister not long ago thanking me for mentioning it on one of my posts that I wanted to read this series because she loved it so much. I SWEAR I'm going to read it VERY soon!

Kristalyn-- I read TFIOS and yes, it destroyed me, but I felt refreshed after it too if that is weird, but trust me, I know your story and say you should NOT read it. As for The Selection and Iron Fey, yes, you MUST read both of them. I know you will love them as much as I did!! Maybe if you don't get to them by the end of the year we can recommend a couple series to each other to read and that would be my picks for you!
ReplyDeleteBeighley-- Yes you are a cheater!! But I understand being afraid to read something like that, especially because even though there is 3 books, the books aren't small. They are worth the read though :) As for Looking for Alaska, I didn't like it. The first half for me was good, the second half was awful. It was a book I almost gave up on! Divergent to me is nothing like hunger games, it is dystopian yes, but that is the extent of it in my eyes! I did cry though at the end of the trilogy, it was a very sad ending and almost made me question why I read it all!
Great post :) I enjoyed seeing my name everywhere, mwahahahahahahah!!
The Selection and Iron Fey were high on my TBR! I really would like to get to them soon...but someone started this Swag September thing that threw my TBR in a blender! ;) I am in the mood for a good "take me away" series so I hear you! Thanks for stopping over my dear!
DeleteI read 50 Shades back in the day and it was just... meh. I mean the first one wasn't bad, storywise - in other words it was interesting and different. But the characters suck and the writing sucks, so I'd only read it if you really wanted to see what the hype is about before the movie, IMO. Also, I LOVEEEE Cinder and Divergent so I hope you guys get to that soon! Good luck with all your recs :)
ReplyDeleteAmanda @ i solemnly swear
Cinder is coming up soon! I have to get to it because my sister read it and now she is making me get to it too! Thanks for stopping by Amanda! Sorry I'm slow to reply this week!
DeleteI'm not a big fan of love triangles so I don't think I'll be reading The Selection series. The Iron Fey series was my first faery book and I thought it was interesting and fun :)
ReplyDeleteEileen @ BookCatPin
I'm really looking forward to Iron Fey! I have heard many good things about it! No love triangles hu? I'm okay with them most of the time as long as the characters aren't too annoying. :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Fifty Shades of Grey is contain a lot of lovely things like: annoying characters, horrible writing and an unbelievable love story, I'm still not sure why the hell did I read all three books and gave approx 3 stars to them. I don't get myself. I was hesitant about Cinder because I don't usually read sci-fi and books with big hype tend to disappoint me but finally I gave it a chance and it was amazing, since then The Lunar Chronicles became one of my favorite books. I love The Selection which is strange considering how much I detest love triangles but I liked this because it was kind of obvious who America will choose.
ReplyDeleteDivergent was the book that I started to reread right after finishing it, just the best parts but still. Then came Insurgent and I was so disappointed but still looked forward to Allegiant, thought it will be amazing because it's the last book. I hated that book from the very first page, the characters became annoying, whiny and way too perfect and the storyline was just plainly boring. By the end I couldn't care less about people dying. I really liked The Tiger's Curse but then I read the synopsis of the next books and wasn't interested in another love triangle so just skipped reading the other books.

Veronika, sounds like I am missing 50 shades of nothing! lol I'm glad to know that! The Love Triangle in Tiger's Curse didn't bother me much at all. I like them if they are done well and sort of have a "purpose" to them. I don't know if that makes sense. That is my all time favorite series though so I would always recomend them! Thanks for stopping by and for your great comments. Sorry I am slow to reply this week as I had surgery. :)
DeleteI loved The Fault in Our Stars, Cinder, and Divergent! I've been meaning to read The Selection, but I just can't quite make myself pick it up.

Cinder is one I am really looking forward to. I'm the same with The Selection. One day! Thanks for stopping by and sorry for my late reply. Have a great weekend.
DeleteLooking for Alaska is the only John Green book I've read (so far), but I loved it so much, that I've bought all of his others without even reading what they are about! Get to reading, Beighley! :)
