Welcome to my first Feature and Follow Friday post! This post is hosted by two different blogs, Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! This feature is here for everyone to be able to get their blog out there and get more followers as well as give my readers a little more fun at looking what I pick as my answer to the weekly topic! Check out the rules at the bottom if you want to join in the fun!
This week's topic:
Back-list book recommendations
(5-10 years old)
I decided to do 2 books that I really love and one series.
In the wake of personal tragedy, two people meet on a humanitarian mission in Peru. Christine is a shy, unadventurous woman whose fiancee broke off the engagement only a week before the wedding, and Paul is a former emergency room doctor whose glamorous lifestyle, stellar reputation, and beautiful fiancee are cruelly snatched from him one fateful, snowy Christmas Eve. Deep in the Amazon jungle, against a backdrop of poverty and heartbreak, they must confront their deepest fears and, together, learn to trust and love again.
Richard Paul Evans is a beautiful storyteller and one of my favorite authors. I never miss a book of his and this is hands down my favorite book he has written. When I met him this year he says he is surprised how many people say this is their favorite as well.
The Sunflower was published in 2005.
For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely! Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite . . .
Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws give relative order among greedy trolls, mischevious satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken, an arcane evil is unleashed, forcing Kendra and Seth to face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save her family, Fablehaven, and perhaps the world, Kendra must find the courage to do what she fears most.
The description above is for the first of the books in this series. After the first book, the series follows Kendra and Seth on innumerable adventures facing creatures that they never imagined existed. Fablehaven is appropriate for ages 8 and up. It is a wonderful series that I have read 3 times. I love being taken away to this world.
The Fablehaven series was published 2006-2010
Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight - she's a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king's thug.
When she first meets Prince Po, Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change.
She never expects to become Po's friend.
She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace - or about a terrible secret that lies hidden far away...
It has been a long while since I have read this book, and I always consider it an old favorite. It has so many different elements that you can't help but love it. There are 2 companion novels to this book but I don't exactly consider it a series.
Graceling was published in 2008
Now it's your turn! Tell me in the comments about your old favorites or leave me the link to your Feature and I will stop by and visit you for a follow as well.
Make sure you tell me if you are a new follower in the comments so I can follow you back!!
